MTN Keeping Me Away From My Black Berry
I few months ago I received the great news that I’m due for a upgrade on my cellphone with MTN in a month and a half. I really wanted a Blackberry so I created a countdown timer on my phone that counts down to the day of my upgrade. Then finally the day came and I couldn’t wait to go in and collect my new phone. I gave them all my details and they checked it on the system. All seemed fine and they got my Blackberry from the stockroom and waved it in front of my face while I drool over the counter (yes that’s how much I want a new phone).
Then the shocking words came out of the woman’s behind the counter’s mouth. “You need to pay R680 in order to upgrade”. I’m all like; WTF? Why do they make me all excited and then tell me I have to pay in. I asked her if there was another way to settle this and what is this for? Apparently it’s a promotional contract and I have to wait for it to finish it’s full time period. She also said I can pay an extra R140 per month on top of my usual contract fee for 24 months?
Why the hell would I do that? Instead of paying R680 once off why would anyone rather pay R140 for 24 months just to upgrade. So I don’t know how they work that out?
Anyways there was 4 months left on my contract so I said keep the phone and I’ll just set my count down timer for another four months.
