Build the Back to the Future Delorean Model Car that will cost you just over R19 000
A company from the UK released a new magazine in South Africa where you can build the Back To The Future Delorean model car that’s 1:8 scale to the real one.
The car comes complete with wires, switches and awesome detail which really makes it an awesome model. I was so excited when I saw this in CNA that I immediately bought the first three issues that were already out.
The first issue is R29, the second issue is R79 and from thereon it’s R149 per issue. I didn’t think about the price at the time and I just bought it. When I got home I checked online to see how many issues there were and found out that there are 130 issues.
There are 4 issues that come out per month which works out to R596 per month. That’s more than an average cell phone contract at MTN.
And then I calculated how much this would cost me to build when it’s complete and how long it would take. The total cost for the Delorean model would work out to be R19 218.
What??? R20 000 for a model car? And based on the 130 issues when you get 4 per month, it would take you 32 months to build this car. That’s 2 years and 8 months.
Look, I’m not a stingy person but this is ridiculous. I Googled a little bit and found an article on The Daily Star in the UK where others also complained how much this model car would cost you at the end.
Luckily I acted fast and I quickly returned it to the CNA where I bought it before the issues weren’t relevant anymore.
